Cosmetics in Metro Detroit

All four Kelly Beauty stores carry a full cosmetics section, and the reason people drive to a beauty supply rather than a general retailer is depth of shade range, particularly in foundation and concealer.

Base products

Foundation and concealer are the purchases where getting it right matters and where the shade range decides whether that's possible. Depth and undertone are separate decisions, and a foundation can be the right depth and still read gray or orange because the undertone is wrong. Test along the jaw in daylight and let it sit ten minutes before judging.

Color

Lipstick, gloss and liner, eyeliner, mascara, brow products, eyeshadow, blush and bronzer. Pigment density matters more than it does in mass-market ranges, since sheer formulas simply disappear on deeper skin. Nail polish, press-ons and nail care sit in the same part of the store.

Tools

Brushes, sponges and cleaners. Six tools cover a complete face: a base brush or sponge, a powder brush, an angled cheek brush, a brow brush, a blending brush and a flat shader brush. Washing them monthly matters more for your skin than the price of the brush.

Where to buy

Detroit off Gratiot near 7 Mile, Eastpointe on Gratiot at 8 Mile, Warren on Van Dyke in the Majestic Plaza, and Roseville on Gratiot at 12 Mile. Warren stays open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday and Roseville until 8:45 PM, which is the time shade matching actually needs.
