Eyeliner, Mascara and Brows in Roseville

Pencil, gel or liquid

A pencil is the easiest to control and the only one you can deliberately smudge, which is why it suits a soft everyday eye. Gel delivers more depth and will not move once it sets, at the cost of needing a brush and a steady hand. Liquid gives the sharpest line and is the least forgiving of a shaky morning.

Waterline and lash line are different lines

Liner on the upper lash line, pushed into the roots, makes lashes look denser without reading as makeup. Liner on the lower waterline closes the eye up and makes it look smaller, which can be the effect you want or the opposite. A nude or white pencil on the lower waterline opens the eye instead.

Mascara: length, volume or both

Lengthening formulas have finer brushes and thinner product, which suits short lashes. Volumising formulas are thicker and build fast, which suits sparse lashes but clumps if overloaded. Waterproof holds a curl and survives a long day, but it is harder to remove and rougher on the lashes, so a dedicated remover is worth buying with it.

Brows frame everything

Pencil for sparse brows filled hair by hair, powder for a softer fill, gel to hold unruly hairs in place. Go one shade lighter than your hair rather than darker, which is the most common mistake and the hardest to undo once the whole brow is filled in.
