Making polish last past day two

Chipping usually starts at the tip, and it starts there because the tip was not sealed. Painting a thin stripe of color and then top coat across the free edge of the nail is the single change that adds days. Beyond that: thin coats rather than thick, full drying time between them, and a base coat that gives the polish something to grip.

Base and top coat are not optional extras

Skipping the base coat is what leaves a nail stained yellow under a dark shade, and it costs the polish its grip. Skipping the top coat is what has the manicure chipping by day two. Together they are the difference between three days and a week from the same bottle of color.

Press-ons, applied so they stay

Size each nail before you glue anything, and if you're between sizes go up rather than down, since a nail wider than your bed lifts at the sides. Push back the cuticle, buff the shine off the natural nail and wipe with remover so the surface is clean and dry. Glue for durability, adhesive tabs if you want them off the same evening. Press and hold each one properly rather than tapping it on.

Removal without wrecking the nail

Soak, do not pry. Acetone on a cotton pad held against the nail, or a soak-off, gives the glue time to release. Prying a press-on off takes a layer of natural nail with it, and doing that repeatedly is what leaves nails thin and flexible. A cuticle oil afterward helps the nail recover between sets.

It's open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 6:30 PM on Sunday, which makes it the usual evening stop for Warren, Center Line, Sterling Heights and the Oakland County suburbs off I-696.
