Straight Bundles: What to Expect

Straight bundles are the least forgiving hair on the wall, for the same reason straight units are the least forgiving wigs: there is no texture to hide anything. A good straight install looks like expensive hair. A poor one shows every track, every seam and every mismatch, and it shows them from a distance.

Tracks show

Wavy and curly textures fall over the wefts and break up the lines. Straight hair hangs in a flat plane, so a track sewn slightly too high, spaced slightly too wide, or left with a gap underneath will be visible when the hair moves or when you sit under overhead light. Straight installs need tighter, flatter tracks and more care in the braiding pattern underneath than any other texture. It is also the texture where a closure or frontal earns its cost most clearly, since it removes the parting problem entirely.

Leave-out is hard here

Blending your own hair into bone-straight extensions means getting your hair as straight as the bundles, every single time you wear it. That is a lot of heat on the same section, repeatedly, and it is the most common way leave-out gets damaged. Kinky straight bundles exist as the answer to exactly this problem. If you want silky straight hair, a closure install with no leave-out is the kinder route.

Judging quality

Straight hair reveals whether the cuticles run in the same direction, which is what separates remy from non-remy. Run your fingers down a bundle and then up it: quality hair feels smooth downward and slightly resistant upward. Hair that feels identical in both directions has had the cuticle stripped, and it will look fine for a few washes and then tangle at the nape. Excessive shine is the other flag, since heavily processed hair is often coated.

Care

Straight hair tangles less than any other texture, which makes it low-maintenance once installed. Comb from the ends up, wash cool, and keep oil off the roots and the tracks where it loosens the thread. Wrap it at night rather than sleeping on it loose; the nape is still where friction does its damage.
