Body Wave Wigs

If someone wants one unit that works for the office, a night out and a weekend without being restyled each time, body wave is usually the answer. It is the loosest of the three wave textures, with enough movement to look natural and enough restraint to pass as an ordinary head of hair.

The everyday case for it

Straight units demand precision and show every flaw. Deep wave and curly units demand moisture and time. Body wave asks for neither in the same degree. It falls into shape from the stand, tolerates being brushed, and does not collapse if you skip a refresh. For a first human hair unit, or for anyone who wants to put a wig on and leave the house, it is the low-friction choice.

Straightening it, and what happens next

This is where fiber matters more than anything else on the page. A human hair body wave unit can be flat ironed straight and will return to its wave when washed, giving you two looks from one unit. A synthetic unit will not: standard fiber melts under an iron, and even heat-friendly synthetic, once straightened, holds that straight shape permanently, because the wave was set into the fiber by heat and heat is what removes it. If the ability to switch between straight and wavy is the reason you are buying, buy human hair.

Keeping the wave

Wash cool, apply a leave-in through the mid-lengths, and let it dry without disturbing it. Scrunching while damp tightens the wave; combing it through while damp loosens it, which is a useful lever in both directions. Body wave is forgiving enough that either will look fine.

Daily handling

It is the one wave texture you can reasonably brush, which is why it suits people who fidget with their hair. Use a wide-tooth comb or a loop brush, work from the ends, and check the nape where any shoulder-length or longer unit rubs against clothing. A satin bonnet at night keeps the wave from being crushed on one side.
