Lipstick, Gloss and Liner in Metro Detroit

Lip products are the section people browse longest and the one where a shade that looked perfect in the tube most often disappoints on the mouth. All four Kelly Beauty stores carry lipstick, gloss and liner across a wide shade range.

Finish changes the color

One pigment behaves differently across finishes, which is why a shade tested in one formula can disappoint in another. Matte reads deepest and flattest and shows every dry patch. Satin and cream are softer and more forgiving on the lip. Gloss lightens the same shade and wears off soonest.

Pigment density matters

On deeper skin tones, sheer formulas disappear and the shade in the tube never appears on the mouth. Look for pigment density rather than the shade name. Berry, brick, deep coral and plum tend to read as intended, and a liner underneath anchors and deepens whatever goes over it.

What liner is actually for

Holding the color inside the lip line, so it does not creep into the fine lines around the mouth over an afternoon. Filling the entire lip with liner before the lipstick goes on gives the color a base to grip, and it is the single change that most extends how long a lip lasts.

Making it last

Blot after the first coat, apply a second, blot again. Gloss over the top looks better and shortens the wear. Long-wear liquid formulas last longest and are the most drying. And no formula sits well on flaking lips, so a balm well before application rather than immediately before.
