HD lace is the finest lace used in wigs and frontals, and it's what people are asking for when they want a hairline that genuinely disappears. All four Kelly Beauty stores carry HD lace units and frontals alongside transparent and regular lace.

What makes it different

HD lace is thinner and finer than transparent or regular lace, so it sits flatter against the skin and the mesh is far less visible up close. Where regular lace can look slightly cloudy against the scalp even when tinted, HD melts more completely. That's the whole appeal.

The trade-off is fragility

Thinner lace tears more easily, both while you're cutting and plucking it and over time with wear and removal. An HD frontal will not survive rough handling, and it does not tolerate the pulling that a thicker lace shrugs off. If it's your first frontal, transparent lace is more forgiving to learn on.

Handling it

Cut and pluck on a mannequin head where the lace is held flat and taut. Be cautious about bleaching knots, since that weakens the lace further. Use adhesive in thin layers rather than thick ones. At removal, remover and patience rather than force, and clean the old glue off the same day while it's still soft.

Tinting

Even HD lace looks better matched to your skin. A light dust of foundation or a lace tint spray in a close shade, applied before install, removes the last of the visible mesh. Do it on the mannequin rather than on your head.
