The single most useful thing for an event look is doing it once beforehand. A trial run tells you whether the lash suits your eye shape, whether the unit sits right, whether the color reads the way it did under store lights, and whether the whole thing survives four hours. Discovering any of that on the day is the version everyone wants to avoid.

Buy the hair early

Order or buy bundles, closures or a unit several weeks out, not the week of. Color codes and textures sell through, particularly in spring when prom season across Metro Detroit runs through April and May, and a batch bought later may not match one bought earlier. Buying early also leaves time to swap something that turns out wrong in daylight.

Do a full trial

Install or wear the unit, apply the lashes, and wear the whole look for a few hours at home. Sit down in it, move in it, take photos in it with flash. Flash flattens the face and changes how lashes and color read, which is exactly why a look that seems heavy in the mirror can photograph perfectly and a subtle one can disappear. If you are wearing a unit, this is also when you find out whether it slips.

Lashes for events

Denser lashes read well under event lighting and in photographs, where an everyday lash can vanish. Buy the pair you will wear plus a spare, trim them to fit before the day rather than in a hurry, and check that your adhesive is not an old tube. If you have never worn a heavy lash for a full evening, the trial run is where you find out how it feels at hour four.

The week before

Wash, deep condition and trim about a week out, not the day before, so hair has settled. Do any color work with time to correct it. If you are having an install, book it two to four days ahead rather than the morning of, which gives braids or a sew-in time to relax and any tightness time to ease.

On the day

Have the small things on hand: extra lash glue, bobby pins, edge control, a small comb, oil sheen or a finishing spray, and a satin scarf for the drive. Most event-day problems are minor and fixable if the fix is in the bag rather than at home.
