Treating Dryness, Breakouts and Dark Marks

Most people come to a skin care aisle with one specific concern rather than a general interest. Our Roseville store at Gratiot and 12 Mile stocks treatments alongside the basics, open until 8:45 PM most nights, and the honest answer is that some concerns respond well to shelf products and some need a doctor.

Dryness and dehydration

Dry skin lacks oil and feels rough and flaky; dehydrated skin lacks water and feels tight while still looking oily. Dryness responds to richer creams and facial oils. Dehydration responds to humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid applied to damp skin, then sealed with a moisturizer. Central heating, hot showers and harsh cleansers make both worse.

Breakouts

Salicylic acid works inside the pore and suits blackheads and congestion. Benzoyl peroxide targets the bacteria involved in inflamed spots and is more drying. Start with one, at a low strength, a few times a week, and give it six to eight weeks, since skin turnover takes that long. Painful, deep cystic acne and acne that scars need a doctor, because over-the-counter products will not resolve it.

Dark marks and uneven tone

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, the dark marks left after a spot heals, is common on deeper skin tones and fades slowly on its own. Sunscreen is genuinely the most important product here, because sun exposure darkens existing marks faster than any treatment lightens them. Vitamin C, niacinamide and gentle exfoliating acids can help over months. Avoid harsh scrubs and any product promising rapid lightening, which can cause worse and permanent damage.

Where the shelf ends

Anything painful, spreading, bleeding, changing in appearance, or not responding after a couple of months warrants a doctor or dermatologist. That includes moles that change, patches that won't heal, and skin symptoms that come with other health changes.
