Hair Dryers, Hoods and Attachments in Detroit

Dryers do three different jobs and the right one depends on which job you're doing most. Our Detroit store off Gratiot near 7 Mile carries handheld dryers, hooded dryers and the attachments, alongside the flat irons and curling tools.

Handheld dryers

The everyday tool, for drying and for blow-outs. What matters is wattage, which determines how fast it dries, and heat settings, including a cool shot that sets a style once it's shaped. Ionic dryers reduce frizz by breaking up water droplets, which helps on thick or textured hair. Weight matters if you hold it up for twenty minutes at a time.

Concentrator and diffuser

A concentrator is the flat nozzle that focuses air into a narrow stream, which is what makes a smooth blow-out possible with a round brush. A diffuser is the bowl with prongs that spreads airflow, drying curls without blowing the pattern apart. Most people own both and use one, and the wrong one for your hair type explains a lot of frustrating results.

Hooded and bonnet dryers

These dry without direct airflow on the hair, which is what you need for setting rollers or rods, drying a deep conditioner with heat, or drying braids and installs at the root. A standing hood is more comfortable for long sessions; a soft bonnet attachment that connects to a handheld dryer is cheaper and stores away. For anyone doing roller sets regularly, this is the tool that changes the routine.

Drying without damage

Rough-dry to about 80 percent with medium heat before working with a brush, since the hair is most fragile when soaking wet. Keep the nozzle moving and a few inches from the hair. Finish with the cool setting, which closes the cuticle and locks in the shape. Air-drying entirely sounds gentler but leaves textured hair prone to tangling as it dries in place.
