A lot of shops calling themselves beauty supply carry a wig rack and a shelf of shampoo. A full-line store is a different thing, and knowing what's actually in it saves you a second trip somewhere else. Here's what fills our Detroit store on Houston Whittier, off Gratiot near 7 Mile.

Hair takes the most room

Braiding hair in pre-stretched packs and bulk, in synthetic, blend and human, plus crochet styles. Bundles in human, remy and blend, in straight, body wave, deep wave and curly textures. Closures and frontals to finish an install. Clip-in extensions and drawstring ponytails for people who want length without a sew-in. This is the section that decides whether a store is worth the drive.

The wig wall and what supports it

Synthetic and human hair units, lace fronts, HD lace, glueless caps, half wigs and full caps. Directly around it: wig caps, adhesive, bands, clips, wig shampoo and conditioner, wide-tooth combs and stands. Buying the unit without the support products is the usual mistake, and it shows within a couple of wears.

Our Detroit store

Our Detroit store is at 15221 Houston Whittier St, just off Gratiot near 7 Mile on the east side, and it's the one that handles every online pickup order. It opens at 8:45 AM every day but Sunday, with the latest closing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:15 PM. Coming from downtown or Midtown, Gratiot runs straight there; from the west side, 7 Mile or Davison to Conner is the quickest way over.
