Hair Bundle Textures Explained

Bundles are sold by texture name, and the names are consistent enough across brands to be useful once you know what they mean. Our Detroit store off Gratiot near 7 Mile carries human, remy and blend bundles across the range, next to the closures and frontals that finish an install.

Straight and body wave

Straight is exactly that, and it's the least forgiving, showing every track and any texture mismatch at the leave-out. Body wave is a soft, wide S-shape that carries volume without being obviously curly, and it's the most versatile texture in the range because it can be straightened or defined. If you're buying a first set, body wave is the safer choice.

Loose wave, deep wave and water wave

Loose wave is a bigger, looser curl than body wave with more visible definition. Deep wave is a tighter, more uniform S-pattern with a lot of volume, which reads as fuller but takes more product to keep defined. Water wave is a looser, more irregular version of deep wave that looks more natural wet than dry.

Curly and kinky textures

Curly bundles hold a defined spiral and need regular moisture to stay looking good. Kinky straight and kinky curly textures are made to blend with natural textured hair, which makes them the better match if you're wearing leave-out and don't want to straighten your own hair to blend it.

Matching texture to your own hair

If you're leaving any of your own hair out, the bundle texture has to match how you wear that hair, not how it naturally is. Somebody who straightens their leave-out can wear straight bundles; somebody who doesn't should be looking at kinky straight. Getting this wrong is the most common reason an expensive install still looks like an install.

Our Detroit store is at 15221 Houston Whittier St, just off Gratiot near 7 Mile on the east side, and it's the one that handles every online pickup order. It opens at 8:45 AM every day but Sunday, with the latest closing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:15 PM. Coming from downtown or Midtown, Gratiot runs straight there; from the west side, 7 Mile or Davison to Conner is the quickest way over.
