Closures and Frontals in Detroit: Which One to Buy

A closure and a frontal do the same basic job, finishing the top of a sew-in so no leave-out is needed, but they cover different amounts of head and suit different styles. Buying the wrong one means either a limited parting or paying for coverage you never use. Our Detroit store carries both alongside the bundles, off Gratiot near 7 Mile.

What a closure does

A closure is a smaller piece, typically covering the crown area, that closes off the top of an install. It gives you a parting in one place. If you wear your hair with a middle part or one side part and rarely change it, a closure does everything you need for less money and installs faster.

What a frontal adds

A frontal is wider, running from ear to ear across the hairline. That buys you two things a closure cannot: the freedom to part anywhere across the front, and the ability to pull the hair back off the face, including into a ponytail, without exposing tracks at the temples. If you want that flexibility, the extra cost is the point.

Matching it to the bundles

The closure or frontal has to match the bundles in texture, color and quality, and this is where installs go wrong. A silky closure on wavy bundles never blends. Buy them together in one purchase rather than adding the closure later, and match the texture name and color code exactly.

Budgeting the whole install

A full sew-in is bundles plus the closure or frontal, plus thread, needle, a wig cap or net, and adhesive if you're gluing the lace. Working out the total before you start is worth doing, because running short on bundles halfway through a sew-in is the expensive mistake.

It opens at 8:45 AM every day but Sunday, with the latest closing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:15 PM. Coming from downtown or Midtown, Gratiot runs straight there; from the west side, 7 Mile or Davison to Conner is the quickest way over.
