Protective Styling and Scalp Care in Detroit

Protective styling only protects if the hair underneath is looked after. That's the part that gets skipped, and it's why a style that looked good for six weeks can leave thinned edges behind. Supplies for the style itself

Braiding hair in pre-stretched and bulk packs, crochet hair, bundles and closures for sew-ins, and wigs with the caps, bands and adhesive to wear them. Alongside those: rat-tail combs and clips for sectioning, rubber bands, a latch hook for crochet, and rods or setting lotion if the style finishes in curls.

Scalp care while the style is in

The scalp still needs cleaning and moisture under braids or a sew-in. Light oils and scalp treatments with applicator tips reach the parts without disturbing the style. A dry or clarifying wash between installs helps. Itching that turns into scratching is what breaks hair at the root, so treating it early is worth more than any product you use afterward.

Edges and tension

Braids or a sew-in installed too tightly is the single biggest cause of hairline damage, and no product undoes it. If a style hurts on day one, it is too tight. For the hairline itself, a light edge control applied with a soft brush does the job. Heavier hold products used daily along the same line are worth avoiding.

Between styles

Give the hair a break rather than going straight into the next install. A deep conditioner or protein treatment, a trim of the ends, and a week or two of loose wear does more for length retention than the style itself. Bonnets and satin accessories reduce the overnight friction that undoes the work.
