Spring twist hair comes pre-textured with a tight, springy coil already in it, which means the twist is largely formed before you start. That makes spring twists among the fastest and lightest protective styles, and a common recommendation for anyone whose scalp struggles with heavier installs.

What makes them light

The hair is bouncy and low density compared with marley, and the coil holds itself, so you need less of it per twist to fill the same space. A full head weighs noticeably less than the same length in faux locs or marley twists. For anyone with fine hair or a fragile hairline, that difference matters more than the look.

What to buy

Spring twist hair specifically, which is sold pre-textured. Pre-looped crochet versions exist and are faster again, needing a cornrow base and a latch hook rather than twisting each section by hand. Buy the packs together so the coil pattern is consistent across the head.

Install notes

Twisting is quick because the texture does the work, and the ends tend to hold themselves without sealing, though a dip in hot water sets them firmly. The usual tension rule applies: firm at the root, not tight. Because the style is light, there's less excuse for installing it tightly.

Keeping the bounce

Spring twists lose definition as the coil relaxes with wear. A spray bottle of water with a little conditioner revives it, and a light mousse holds the refresh. Heavy oils and butters weigh the coil down and flatten the whole style, so keep products light.
