Lash Applicators, Tweezers and Tools

Strip lashes can be applied with fingers, and they go on far better with two dollars' worth of tools. Super Kelly Beauty on Gratiot near 8 Mile stocks the small items alongside the lash wall, and they make more difference than moving up a price bracket on the lashes themselves.

Applicators and tweezers

A lash applicator is a curved clamp that holds the strip and lets you place it precisely without your fingers blocking the view. Angled tweezers do the same job with more control and double for peeling glue off the band afterward. Either beats fingers, which smudge glue onto the lash hairs and press the band out of shape.

Curlers, and when to use one

Curl your own lashes before applying the strip, never after, since curling a strip crushes the band. A few gentle pumps at the base is enough. Heated curlers hold a curl longer and are gentler than clamping hard with a manual one. If your own lashes are very straight, curling first is what stops them sitting below the strip and showing separately.

Scissors for trimming

Small, sharp scissors with a fine point trim the band cleanly. Nail scissors crush it. Trimming is not optional for most people, since nearly every strip is longer than a natural eye, and a clean cut at the outer corner is the difference between comfort and a lash that lifts by lunchtime.

Removers and cleaning

An oil-based or micellar remover on a cotton bud softens glue for removal and cleans the band afterward. A lash case or the original tray for storage. Together these cost very little and turn a two-wear pair into a many-wear one.
