Remy, Non-Remy and What You Are Paying For

Two sets of bundles at the same length can differ several times over in price, and the labels explaining why are not always clear. Our Warren store on Van Dyke in the Majestic Plaza carries human, remy and blend bundles across the range, open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday, which is enough time to compare them properly.

What remy actually means

Remy hair has been collected and kept with all the cuticles running in the same direction, root to tip. That's the whole definition, and it's why remy tangles far less and lasts longer. Non-remy hair has cuticles running in mixed directions, which is why it matts at the nape after a few weeks no matter how carefully it's washed.

Virgin and processed

Virgin hair has not been chemically treated, colored or permed. It takes color predictably and handles heat best, which matters if you plan to dye or straighten it. Processed hair has been treated to reach a color or texture, which is not a fault, but it has less life left in it and responds less well to further chemical work.

Blend and synthetic

Blend bundles mix human hair with synthetic fiber, which brings the price down and holds a style well, but limits heat styling. Fully synthetic wefts are cheaper again and cannot take heat unless labeled heat-friendly. For a style you will wear once or twice, that trade is reasonable; for a long install it usually isn't.

Where the money goes

Longer lengths cost disproportionately more because long, undamaged hair is scarcer. Curly and wavy textures cost more than straight of the same grade. The practical question is how many installs you expect from the set: cheap non-remy for one install can cost more per wear than remy that lasts three.
