Crochet Hooks, Tools and Supplies in Warren

The hook itself

Either way, the size matters: too large and it disturbs the braid, too small and it fights you on thicker pieces. Having two sizes on hand is worth the small extra cost.

Sectioning and the base

A rat-tail comb for clean, straight parts, and enough clips to hold the unbraided sections out of the way. Rubber bands or braiding thread for finishing the cornrows. Neat parts are what make the base look deliberate, and on styles that will be parted, the base is visible.

Setting and finishing

If the style ends in curls set with hot water, all you need is a kettle, a towel and patience. If it's set with rods, buy the rods and setting lotion together. Mousse smooths the finish on twist styles. Light oil for the scalp along the parts, applied with a nozzle tip so it doesn't sit on the hair.

Aftercare to buy at the same time

A satin bonnet or scarf, a spray bottle for reviving curls, and a mild cleanser for washing with the style in. Buying these with the hair rather than three weeks later is the difference between a style that looks good for its full run and one that looks tired by week two.
