Caring for a Closure or Frontal Between Installs

A good frontal costs enough that getting two or three installs out of it changes the maths considerably. Most don't last that long, and the reason is usually what happens between installs rather than during them. Our Warren store on Van Dyke in the Majestic Plaza carries closures, frontals and the care products, open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday.

Removing it without tearing

Adhesive remover, applied and given time to work, is the whole trick. Lace tears when it's pulled while the glue is still holding, and a torn hairline cannot be repaired. Work slowly from the edges inward, re-applying remover as you go, and accept that this takes longer than the install did.

Cleaning off old adhesive

Residual glue left on the lace hardens, discolors and stops the next install sitting flat. Clean it off the same day, while it's still soft, using remover and a soft brush along the lace band. This is the single step that most decides whether a piece is usable again.

Washing and conditioning

Wash gently with a sulfate-free shampoo, working downward, keeping the lace band handled as little as possible. Condition the hair but keep conditioner off the lace, since it makes the base slippery for the next application. Air dry on a mannequin head or a stand rather than balled in a towel, which is what sets in the tangles.

Storing between wears

Store it on a stand or flat in a satin bag, hair combed through and lying in one direction. A piece stuffed in a drawer comes out matted at the nape, and detangling that costs you hair you can't replace. If you rotate between two units, label them, because texture differences are hard to tell apart in a bag.

Our Warren store

Our Warren store is at 27750 Van Dyke Ave in the Majestic Plaza shopping center, between 11 Mile and 12 Mile. It's open until 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 6:30 PM on Sunday, which makes it the usual evening stop for Warren, Center Line, Sterling Heights and the Oakland County suburbs off I-696.
