Clipper Blades, Guards and Trimmer Parts

Blades and guards are consumables, and treating them as such is what keeps a clipper cutting properly. All four Kelly Beauty stores carry replacement blades, guard sets, oil, cleaning brushes and disinfectant sprays alongside the machines.

When a blade is finished

If the clipper pulls hair, leaves lines after cleaning and oiling, or has visibly chipped teeth, the blade is done. Blades dull gradually and it usually shows on detail work before it shows on bulk cutting. Keeping one spare for every machine in regular use means a dull blade costs you a minute rather than an appointment.

Matching blades to the machine

Blades are not universal. A blade is made for a specific model or a family of models, and the same applies to guards. Bring the machine or its model number rather than guessing, and if you're buying a clipper, the availability of its replacement blades is worth more than most of the features on the box.

Guards and the ones that vanish

Guards wear and chip, and a chipped guard leaves lines in a cut. Buy duplicates of the numbers you use most rather than a single set, and check them against each other occasionally. Half sizes between the lower numbers are what make a fade blend smoothly.

Oil, brushes and sprays

A few drops of oil along the teeth every couple of cuts, wiped clean, is the whole maintenance routine. A cleaning brush clears hair without knocking the alignment out. Cooling disinfectant sprays handle hygiene between clients and keep a hot blade comfortable against skin.
