Beads and how to secure them

Beads are stocked in bulk in a wide color range. A bead threader, a thin looped tool, speeds up the job enormously compared with threading by hand. Secure each bead with a small rubber band or elastic below it rather than knotting the hair, since a knot has to be cut out and a band does not.

Barrettes, ballies and snap clips

Snap clips and ballies suit finer hair and cause less pulling than heavier metal barrettes. Plastic ballies on the ends of braids and twists are the classic and still the most practical. Check that clips close smoothly, since a stiff clip is one that will pull hair when it's opened.
